Rod's Steak And Seafood Grille: A Premium Dining Experience in Morristown, NJ

I have been coming here for many years. Idk why people are writing exact timing when they arrive and how long it took for a waiter to get to your table. This is a steak house and they are busy, it's not a fast food joint. So chill out and enjoy what I have been enjoying for years. I love their food and staff and the hotel that connects have amazing staff.

Dined here with another couple as a last-minute plan. Rod's did not disappoint! Even though when dining upstairs, it feels like you're on the Titanic ;-) the ambience is white tablecloth class. Our server was very professional and took great care of us. We started with martinis, the jumbo shrimp cocktail, and escargot. All were delicious. Moved on to main courses and the servings were very generous, hot, nice plating, and excellent quality. Overall, this is a great spot for a nice dinner out.

With high expectations, my wife and I dined here as the top pick for our anniversary. All was good. Food was good, service was good. Yet, I was expecting a little more than that. Tomahawk steak was not evenly cooked, part was medium rare as requested but rest of the cuts were all well cooked. The cocktail shrimp was very normal for this place. Service could be better. However, we still love this restaurant very much. We will be back.

I shared the tuna tartare as an appetizer (9/10 very good I just wish they gave you some wonton strips or something that you could put the tartare on top to eat it) and then ordered the Chilean sea bass (7/10 the sea bass was amazing but the sauce and locking noodles lacked really any flavor). I then tried my friend's cheesecake and it definitely was not worth it (4/10 it had no good crust and the actual cheesecake seemed too gelatinous for my liking). Good service and atmosphere, decent enough food.

From the outside I wasn't expecting much, but I stepped inside and discovered an opulent dining experience unlike anything else in New Jersey. The vaulted ceilings, rococo light fixtures, waiters clad in full suits, and abundant dark wood styling is evocative of a roaring '20s restaurant of the elite (there's even a section styled like the interior of a train!) Yet, you'll find down to earth and very kind servers ready to bring whatever you need in seconds. The food is phenomenal. At these prices I often find that the food lacks substance, but I was very impressed by both the ingredients and flavors on display. The "Scallops and Polenta" I ate was perfectly cooked. The polenta was smooth and creamy while the scallops were juicy and tender. A few of us ordered a special "Crab Stuffed Salmon" which was also a hit. What you pay is what you actually get here - between the generously portioned entrees and excellent bread baskets, we were as stuffed as the salmon.

Deliciousness - 4/5 Happiness - 4/5 A deceptively huge steakhouse tucked away in Morristown, you'll be happy to visit this place for special occasions. Part of the restaurant is located in an old train car, with the bulk of it in an enormous building designed to look like a train station. Kudos to building and maintaining a pretty cool themed interior. Everyone in our group went with steaks and they were all pretty good. I got a cowboy ribeye on the bone for a very reasonable price. It was cooked perfectly (medium rare was what I ordered) and decently salt and peppered. My wife got the filet mingon and it was nice and tender. One thing I liked is that we ordered a wine and they didn't have it in the year we ordered, so they gave us the same brand in an older year (for the cost of the newer year). That's a classy thing to do given that they must have taken a small financial hit on it. Overall, a delicious dinner for a reasonable price.

An absolutely wonderful upscale atmosphere awaits you as you enter the dining area. The restaurant itself seems to have been adapted from a historic passenger train car, and everything is presented wonderfully and ornate. As an upscale establishment, it does make nicely for a dress-up night, if you were looking to stretch out some of your more formal wear. And it's always a nice touch when the bread comes with variety instead of just white. The food itself was delicious and cooked right to order. Menu is a single page and food is on the pricier side, but well worth it for a special occasion or a nice date night.
